Vowels are the building blocks of words and are essential when learning to read and write. Understanding and hearing vowels properly will improve spelling, reading, speech, and comprehension. This resource supports students in developing their phonological awareness {CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.2, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.2} and phonics and word recognition {CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.3, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.2.3}.

There are five bookmarks for additional support for students. Each bookmark includes all spelling patterns that make the long vowel sound (with graphics to support visual learners). Bookmarks can also be used when reading or glued inside the students’ writing workbooks or writing folder.

I recommend hanging your posters down a long ribbon in your classroom, with the QR code at the bottom of each ribbon. If you’re lucky enough to have access to a mobile device (i.e. ipad) in your classroom, students can scan the QR codes and listen to the vowel sound stories. This is a great literacy center activity.

Check out my Long Vowel Sound Interactive Flip book. This is a perfect home learning activity and also includes the QR codes.

Happy reading, writing and spelling!
